Vibration Analysis

Vibration Analysis is one of many H&N Electric’s Predictive and Preventive Maintenance services designed to help our customers save time and money through early detection of mechanical problems. Our highly trained service technicians use Vibration Analysis to identify problems in rotating equipment before these problems create equipment failures.

Features
Excessive vibration (the pulsating motion that moves a machine from its original place of rest) is often the first sign of other less obvious problems. Since vibration cannot be accurately measured by touch, a spectrum analyzer and transducer are used to convert the mechanical vibration into an electronic signal that can be measured and analyzed. This electronic signal can measure the vibration frequency (how fast the machine is moving) and the vibration amplitude (how much the machine is moving). These measurements enable our technicians to pinpoint the source and severity of mechanical problems. By determining the overall operating condition of rotating equipment, Vibration Analysis can detect:

• unbalance
• misalignment
• looseness
• worn or broken gears
• loose or faulty bearings

This evaluation can determine whether the vibration could be minimized by increasing the mass, reducing the stiffness or adding to the damping characteristics of the vibrating system.

Benefits
Periodic Vibration Analysis can establish performance trends that enable you to better predict the onset of bearing or gear wear. The benefits of this service include:

• Reduction of production losses and unplanned downtime due to problems not identified early enough
• Reduced maintenance and repair costs
• Improved equipment maintainability and reliability
• Increased equipment life
• Increased Mean Time Between Failures
• Professional, comprehensive custom reports
• Increased productivity and profitability

As part of our Preventive Maintenance Services, we also offer our customers a Condition Monitoring Audit. This comprehensive audit includes a complete survey of your equipment and recommendations on which of our services would be most appropriate to help extend the machine life of your equipment.

Thermal Imaging testing with H & N ElectricThermal Imaging is one of many H&N Electric’s Predictive and Preventive Maintenance services designed to help our customers save time and money through early detection of electrical and/or mechanical problems.

A detection procedure that converts invisible heat energy into a visible picture, Thermal Imaging can detect overheated parts in electrical distribution systems and energy losses in manufacturing processes.

A detection procedure that converts invisible heat energy into a visible picture, Thermal Imaging can detect overheated parts in electrical distribution systems and energy losses in manufacturing processes. Through expert analysis conducted by our highly trained Services technicians, thermal images can reveal defects or problems in electrical systems and mechanical equipment or in any process that uses or produces energy.

Benefits
• Reduction of production losses due to unplanned downtime
• Reduced maintenance and repair costs
• Increased equipment life
• Increased Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
• Professional, comprehensive custom reports
• Increased productivity and profitability

H&N Electric supports the National Fire Protection Association's recommendation that annual Infrared Thermography inspections be conducted on all electrical distribution equipment as part of your regular maintenance program.

Features
Because thermographic scans are performed while your equipment is in operation, there is no lost production or machine downtime. Advance notice of developing problems enables you to conduct the necessary adjustments or repairs before costly, catastrophic failures occur.

Considering the high cost of electrical and mechanical failures, Thermal Imaging can result in substantial savings.

• Early indication of electrical deterioration
• Bearing and coupling wear
• Insulation leaks
• Faulty electrical contacts or connections
• Leaky steam traps
• Refractory deterioration
• Excessive temperatures
• High resistance connections
• Unbalanced or overloaded circuits
• Improper grounding
• Inductive heating
• Open circuits

Laser AlignmentIncrease Equipment Reliability, Extend Bearing Life and Reduce Power Consumption

Using the latest Laser Alignment technology, our technicians at H&N Electric can help you avoid inconvenient and costly problems created by misalignment of the shafts connecting two machines (such as a motor and a pump). When the centerlines of two connecting shafts do not form a straight line under normal operating conditions, the angular misalignment can cause serious mechanical problems such as:
• Loose or worn bearings
• Equipment that runs too hot
• Equipment that doesn't rotate properly
• Excessive power consumption
• A wide variety of production problems and potential defects

Just one of many H&N Electric’s Preventive Maintenance services designed to help our customers save time and money, our highly accurate Laser Alignments are performed through the use of laser transmitters and detectors that are mounted on each connecting shaft. If misalignment is detected, the front or back feet of one machine can be repositioned until the shafts are aligned within recommended tolerances.

Benefits
Too frequently, alignments are performed only after problems surface. However, alignments should be conducted routinely after any replacement of motors, pumps or couplings if you wish to:
• Increase equipment reliability
• Extend bearing life
• Reduce power consumption

Other benefits of regular and accurate Laser Alignment include:
• Reduction of production losses and unplanned downtime due to problems not identified early enough
• Reduced maintenance and repair costs
• Increased equipment life
• Increased Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
• Professional, comprehensive custom reports
• Increased productivity and profitability

Dry Ice Cleaning is offered by your local H & N Electric Service Center. Also known as CO2 or Cryogenic Blasting, this type of process is a clean, safe alternative to conventional grit methods. Dry ice cleaning is for electric motors, generators, turbines, Anilox ink rolls, and any equipment or surface needing to remove the buildup of foreign material.

Features
Dry Ice Blasting is becoming a popular method for on-site cleaning due to:
• Little downtime as a result of cleaning equipment “in-place”
• Excellent results
• No sand or soda to collect
• Virtually no waste disposal

Benefits
• Equipment removal and re-installation virtually eliminated
• Quicker and more thorough cleaning
• Improved Resistance Readings
• Elimination of Insulation Damage
• Doesn’t deposit abrasive foreign material into equipment
